Rugby league comes to Portway

We are pleased to announce that N.E.W. Ravens Rugby League Club is transferring its activities to Portway, the home of the Bees.

The Ravens will be conducting weekly junior & adult training at Portway, as well as playing a number of home matches, between April – August. The adult training has already started on Wednesday evenings & the junior training is due to start in May on Saturday mornings switching to Sunday mornings in June. There will also be some limited activity continuing into October. Portway will also be hosting a number of social & other events for the Ravens this year & next.

The two clubs hope that the move will be sufficiently successful to result in a prolonged relationship over the coming years. The opportunity for ‘cross fertilisation’ between the two codes, with Bees players that want to continue to play after the end of the season being able to do so with the Ravens & vice versa, is a particular attraction.

Reacting to the conclusion of negotiations & the commencement of the Ravens’ move, Bees Chairman & Head of Senior Rugby ’Lou’ Lupoli said:

“The Club is delighted to be entering this partnership with N.E.W. Ravens which we see as mutually beneficial. We hope that players from either code will learn from each other to the betterment of both clubs. N.E.W. Ravens’ captain, Liam Dunne, has already had a long association with the Bees. Jason Spafford [N.E.W. Ravens' Director of Rugby] and I share the same passion for developing our respective clubs and I am looking forward to a long sporting relationship with him and Ravens.”
