Bees travelled to Dudley Kingswinford for friendly fixture that proved to be one of the toughest fixtures of this season's campaign. 5 minutes into the contest a well worked move looked to have secured the first try of the day when captain, Cam Watson drew the final line of defence and put Gabe Lupoli in the open to canter over the line to ground the ball but inexplicably, the referee ruled that somewhere in the passage of play there had been knock on.
Despite having the lion share of territory and possession, DK Wasps (as their 3rds are branded) defence remained resolute under significant pressure. It took until the 22nd minute before the blue line was breached with a classic period of pick 'n' drives that saw stalwart, Liam Dunne, cross over the whitewash. Bees continued to dominate the contest and on 35 minutes after recycling quick possession on the 22, the indomitable Watson collected the ball in the 12 channel and charged towards the line. Although he was tackled short of the target, his momentum carried him forward enough to be able reach out and score the try. The extras were added by James Shackleton.
HALF TIME - DK WASPS 0 BEES 12
The second half saw the roles being reversed with DK dominating but being held out by a dogged Bees defence. Try as they might, Bees couldn't find away to turn the tables and eventually, the big experienced DK pack scored a deserved try and the extras were added on 60 minutes. Twelve minutes later, after a repeating the well worked formula of the first try, DK added a second setting an exciting finale. That finale was made all the difficult for Bees when Guy Buttle's frustration saw him receive 2 yellow cards in quick succession for unsportsman-like conduct.
The final period saw the visitors able to put together the sort of play that saw them dominate the first half and with final passage play a series of attacking phases saw a big space appear on the short side which was exploited by the scampering burst of Jack Coombes to score the winning try.
This was a full blooded , physical encounter played in a great spirit by both side. Thank you DK for the game
