Bees remain top of their league having been awarded 5 points following the cancelation of their league game away at Birmingham Exiles RFC.
Looking for a fixture Bees would like to thank Moseley Oak RFC 2nd XV, for taking up the game at such short notice, allowing both teams to play.
This was an ideal time to give their squad players some well deserved game time , and rest some of the team in preparation for next week. Bees gave a season debut to Tom Rees and Deaglan O'Brien, and welcomed Morgan Hennessy, Shaun Pollard-Jenkins, Andy Pearce, Callum Mclynskey, Conal May and Harry Garrett into the starting line up, which also saw two of the coaching team Tom Fleming and James Panter on the bench .
Bees kicked off, and immediately it was apparent that Moseley Oak were going to be a strong opposition. They attacked the young Bees team with a number of strong phases running straight and keeping possession of the ball. Oak gave the ball away on the 15 minute mark, for the first time in the game, which then allowed Bees to counter attack, the ball was moved quickly through the backs which eventually led to Lewis Edwards finding space on the 22 and rounded a number of players before scoring under the posts, he converted his try, taking a 0-7 lead.
For the rest of the 1st half Bees laboured and found it hard going under the consistent pressure from Moseley (several of the backs had played 1st team this season), and a number of errors meant that Oak scored two converted tries taking the score to 14-7 at half time.
The second half started and Bees seemed to take more control of the game, using the slope and wind to their advantage. Oak struggled to get out of their half as Bees defensive line was strong and made a number of crucial tackles, but also Bees were also finding it difficult to cross the try line, lacking the killer finish at key moments. The two sides seemed to nullify each other until the 75th minute where 2 quick tries turned the tide in the visitors favour.
Tom Rees had moved into the centres after a couple of injuries, and following quick ball from scrum half Harry Garrett, the Bees back line finally show its paces and Tom found space out wide to score, which in turn was well converted by Edwards. Bees continued to press hard running some good lines at a tired Moseley Oak defence, and finally Oak missed a tackle allowing Andy Pearce to take a switch from Edwards and cross the whitewash, converted by Edwards.
Final score 14-21.
The players and coaching staff would like to thank the many supporters for coming to the game, it is very much appreciated.
Bees welcome Chaddesley Corbett RFC to Portway for Game 5 in the Counties 3 Midlands West League, next Saturday, 3pm Kick Off.
