5. Parents' code of conduct


Parents of B&S RFC age players must:

  1. never indulge in coarse or abusive behaviour & always support the Club in their efforts to eradicate this from the game.
  2. respect decisions made by the match officials and encourage the young players to do likewise, as this could discourage people from volunteering to referee & no referee = no game.
  3. complete all consent, contact and medical forms & the affiliation process on the RFU’s Game Management System (GMS) & update them annually.
  4. make sure his/her child has the right kit for a training session or match.
  5. be present throughout a training session or match unless you have (A) made arrangements with a specific adult to be responsible for a child during your absence & (B) notified the lead coach for his/her age group of this.
  6. use social media responsibly when talking about the Club, its activities, other parents or their children.

Parents of B&S RFC age players are encouraged to:

1. remember that:
A. young people learn by example.
B. young people play rugby for their own enjoyment not that of their parents.
C. the way you react and behave effects not just your child but other children too.
D. persistent, negative messages will adversely affect a player’s performance and attitude.
E. children get a wide range of benefits from participating in sport, like making friends, getting exercise and developing skills.
2. encourage your child :
A. to play by the rules.
B. to play; never force them.
3. focus on a young player’s efforts rather than winning or losing.
4. be realistic about a young players' ability; do not push him/her towards a level that they are not capable of achieving.
5. provide positive oral feedback both in training and during the game.
6. talk to your child about embracing good etiquette and sportsmanship.
7. make sure your child arrives to sessions on time & to let us know if you're running late.
8. learn about your child's sport and what means to him/her & take the time to talk to your child about what you both want to achieve through sport.
9. maintain a good relationship with your child's coach or trainer and catch up with them as much as you can about your child's development
10. lead by example when it comes to positive behaviour on the sidelines; or let other parents take their cues from you, as well as from us.
11. always show appreciation of good play by all young players both from the Club and the opposition.
12. be familiar with:
A. the coaching and training programme in order that you can ensure that your child is fully involved and the coaches are aware of his/her availability.
B. the teaching and coaching methods used by observing the sessions in which your child participates.
13. be involved with Club activities and share your expertise.
14. share concerns, if you have them, with Club officials.
